Adoption Support

Our team of specialist psychological therapists is trained in trauma-informed therapeutic approaches to support adopted children, young people, and their families.

ABOUT OUR SERVICE

​

bMindful Psychology partners with numerous adoption agencies nationwide to provide a variety of psychological services funded by the Adoption Support Fund (ASF). Each family is assigned an experienced and accredited bMindful Consultant who will work directly with the family and/or child.

We offer a range of ASF-approved services, including:

Assessments:

  • Comprehensive Psychological Assessments

  • Therapy Needs Assessments

  • Cognitive Assessments (e.g., Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, WISC-V)

  • AIM3 Assessment for Harmful Sexual Behaviours and Tech-Assisted HSB

  • Structured Assessment of Violence Risk in Youth (SAVRY)

Individual Therapy:

  • Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP)

  • Theraplay

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

  • Therapeutic Life Story Work (TLSW)

  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)

  • Cognitive Analytical Therapy (CAT)

  • Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)

Support for Parents & Carers:

​

  • Psychological Consultations / Therapeutic Parenting Sessions: These sessions provide a supportive space for parents to discuss and reflect on current challenges. They also offer advice on therapeutic parenting techniques, such as PACE.

​

  • Foundations for Attachment Programme (DDPI endorsed): This six-session programme is designed to help parents and carers build attachments with their child, particularly those whose ability to connect emotionally has been affected by attachment issues, trauma, or loss. It can be delivered to individual families or groups and covers three key areas:

    • Understanding Parenting Challenges

    • Therapeutic Parenting

    • Self-Care

  • Nurturing Attachments Programme (DDPI endorsed): This 18-session programme is based on an understanding of child development and the effects of developmental trauma. It focuses on attachment theory and carer/child relationship-building to ensure children feel safe and secure. The programme is divided into three modules and is best delivered in group settings:

    • Module 1: Understanding attachment theory and therapeutic parenting

    • Module 2: Introducing the 'House Model of Parenting' to create a secure base for the child

    • Module 3: Using the 'House Model of Parenting' to strengthen relationships and manage challenging behaviours

Outcomes Monitoring

We are dedicated to demonstrating the effectiveness of our services. In compliance with ASF requirements for outcome measures, we identify the most suitable measures for each intervention, monitor progress, and report on the results.
