Our team consists of highly experienced and skilled clinicians able to provide support across a range of modalities including CBT, Person-Centred Therapy, DDP, DBT, Creative Psychotherapy (Art, Dance and Movement), EMDR, Speech and Language Therapy, and Occupational Therapy.

Karen Moffett

Managing Director

With a background within HR management, Karen leads the delivery of high quality therapeutic and clinical services and training for professionals, parents and young people for bMindful. Her considerable senior management and HR experience spans multiple sectors from education and local government to manufacturing, construction and social care services where she has held senior board level positions in a variety of health and social care organisations. Karen is extremely passionate about delivering high quality specialist psychology services with particular focus on children and young people who have experienced developmental trauma so that they can reach their potential and have rich and meaningful lives.

Michelle Pennington

Managing Director

Michelle has worked in administration departments in clinical settings for over 15 years. She is now the practice manager for bMindful Psychology and is the key point of contact for patient’s families and referring clinicians and will assist with fee packages for self-funding private patients. Michelle  has worked in both hospital and mental health settings, providing support to Senior Management and Executive Boards, together with ensuring the smooth running of the office.

Melanie Smith

Psychotherapist

Melanie is a Psychotherapist with over 14 years of experience in working with children & young people with attachment and trauma difficulties and complexed mental health issues. Melanie has a BA (Hons) in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Lancaster graduating, and is registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Since graduating she has worked as a Psychotherapist within the looked after children’s setting working with young people who have experienced adverse childhood experiences. She has experience within residential homes as a senior and deputy manager supporting young people with complexed mental health needs and holds a Diploma in Leadership and Management. Melanie has also completed an extended course with the University of Salford on Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT).

Chrissy Orson

Psychotherapist

Chrissy is a BACP registered psychotherapist who completed an MA at the University of Manchester, registering in 2014.  She is an integrative therapist who draws on a number of models to inform her thinking and work with young people.  She has been working within the education and mental health sectors for over 15 years. Prior to working for bMindful, Chrissy was working with a local authority supporting education settings to have a whole setting approach to mental health and develop trauma-aware thinking and processes.  Alongside this, as a therapist Chrissy has supported adults and young people with complex mental health difficulties and experiences of trauma. Chrissy is passionate about supporting settings to increase therapeutic interactions around young people, in turn enabling young people to develop new ways of thinking about themselves.

Claire Simpson

Psychological Practitioner

Claire has significant experience working with children and young people and supporting their families and carers. ​Prior to joining the team at bMindful, Claire worked within an edge of care team. Working with young people on the edge of care and their families and looked after children living in foster placements and residential care, providing intensive support, crisis management and planning and implementing young person led direct work. ​Claire has worked in residential settings, providing therapeutic parenting, and using the PACE model, and in education settings, delivering Lego Therapy, planning interventions, and providing individualised support for children with autism, ADHD, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) and those finding it difficult to be in an education setting.

She also has experience working with young women staying in a mental health unit who have experienced significant trauma and had been given diagnoses of personality disorders.

Harrison Lee

Assistant Psychologist

Harrison is a BSc (Hons) and MSc Forensic Psychology British Psychology Society graduate member. He has a range of clinical and research experiences, including working in a brain injury unit, an acute mental health ward, the residential sector, and a research role with the United Nations. Harrison has worked with a variety of individuals, ages, and backgrounds, including personality disorders, acquired brain injuries, learning difficulties, asylum seekers, and those involved in the criminal justice system. Harrison has a particular interest working with young people who display complex needs and present trauma-related behaviours. He works under the direct supervision of a qualified psychologist to administer assessments and formulations to identify the cognitive and individual needs of young people with adverse experiences.

Julia Gale

Clinical Psychologist

...

Julia is a Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and member of the British Psychological Society (BPS), Division of Clinical Psychology. She has over 10 years experience in working with adults and young people with mental health difficulties. Julia has previously worked within an NHS/Local Authority Fostering and Adoption Psychology Service and also within independent practice. 

 

Julia has experience of undertaking complex assessments and formulations, as well as delivering interventions with individuals underpinned by evidence-based approaches.

Louise Knox

Senior Child and Educational Psychologist

Louise is an experienced Practitioner Psychologist registered with the Health Care Professionals Council. Louise is creative psychologist who enjoys co-production and using applied psychology in innovative ways. 

 

Louise has published research relating to emotionally based school non-attendance and has led in the development of borough-wide early intervention practice and specialist Education Other Than in Schools packages to support anxious children and young people to re-access education and meaningful opportunities beyond this.  

 

Louise works with others to support children and young people at an individual, group and organisational wide level, and has been involved in a number of large-scale systemic change projects. She is accustomed to working in multi-disciplinary teams and is an experienced supervisor, having previous led a psychology service. 

She has a sound knowledge of Special Educational Needs Code of Practice, a specialism in autism, and has a particular interest of trauma and neurodiversity. 

Gemma Leathley

Operational Lead & Art Psychotherapist

Gemma is an Art Psychotherapist and has significant experience at working with children and young people.

 

Gemma has worked alongside multiagency teams, including CAMHS, Education, Social Services, Health Care, the Police, and is experienced in supporting professionals

understanding of trauma, including offering consultation, training programmes and reflection spaces.
